Twelve positive cases of COVID-19 were reported between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4 by the UTRGV COVID-19 Task Force’s Confirmed Cases Dashboard.
Doug Arney, vice president for Administrative Support Services and chair of the UTRGV Infectious Disease Committee, told The Rider on Tuesday that of the 12 cases, five were students and seven were staff. There were zero positive cases for faculty in that time period.
The seven positive cases among the staff were from seven different departments.
Arney said nine students were being quarantined on campus, a decrease of three from the previous reported time period.
As previously reported, not every student quarantined is a result of a positive case.
“If your roommate tests positive, regardless [if you test positive or negative], you have to stay safe and isolated for 10 days. … Do your time and that’s the deal,” he said.
During a student’s time in quarantine, the COVID-19 Response Team tracks if symptoms are being displayed to determine if the student has the virus, Arney said.
Asked if there have been any problems with administering vaccines at the UTRGV locations, he replied, “As far as I know, no.”
“We get allotted [vaccines] every week,” Arney said. “We take our allotment and we distribute to our various locations and the first doses, second doses, we schedule them and, so far, it’s been going great.”
