The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Jan. 18 and Jan. 21.
Jan. 18
9:26 a.m.: A staff member at the UTRGV School of Medicine in Edinburg reported a minor traffic accident while operating a state-owned vehicle in Lot E11. He struck a concrete planter and the vehicle sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported.
4:31 p.m.: A student reported his cellphone stolen from the first floor of the Student Academic Center in Edinburg, which he left unattended at a charging station. The phone had been turned in as lost/found property at UTRGV Police Department and was returned.
7:24 p.m.: A staff member reported minor damage to a university vehicle as a result of a traffic collision. A student operating a vehicle backed without safety and struck the university vehicle. Both vehicles sustained minor damages estimated to be under $1,000. No injuries were reported.
Jan. 19
4:20 p.m.: A staff member at the Student Services Building in Edinburg reported $50 missing/unaccounted for after bank confirmation verified the actual amount through the deposit. The case is under investigation.
5:50 p.m.: A staff member reported a 1-year-old child at the UTRGV Child Development Center accidentally slipped and fell in a classroom, causing injury to his tongue. He was taken to a pediatric center by his grandparent for medical treatment.
Jan. 21
12:49 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Casa Bella student housing complex in Brownsville in regard to minors in consumption of alcoholic beverages. A student who was also a Casa Bella resident, under age 21, was issued a court appearance citation for consumption of alcohol by a minor. Two non-affiliated individuals who were also present in the apartment were issued a criminal trespass warning for Casa Bella. A student in the apartment who was over 21 admitted to purchasing the alcoholic beverages at a local convenience store. He was not charged criminally, but the report was referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
1:07 a.m.: An officer made contact with a suspicious vehicle in the center of Lot E31. The occupant, a non-affiliate, said he had consumed a beer and was just in his car smoking a cigar to get away from his girlfriend. He was informed of university policy regarding alcohol and issued a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV properties.
4:55 p.m.: A student reported that U. S. currency was stolen from her wallet when left unattended Jan. 28 in a women’s restroom in the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
