Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. held a news conference earlier today to provide updates on the latest confirmed COVID-19 cases, which now total 195.
As of today, the county judge reported 507 people have been tested, 195 results confirmed positive, with 62 of those having been cleared, and 214 results coming back negative.
The number of individuals under self-quarantine is 324. One hundred thirty-seven have completed the two weeks, and 187 are still being monitored.
Treviño said the numbers the county received are associated with two large clusters.
The first cluster is from the Veranda and Windsor Atrium nursing homes in Harlingen.
The Veranda Nursing Home has 48 confirmed cases: 17 employees and 31 residents, including the two previously reported deaths.
Windsor Atrium has 25 confirmed cases: 11 employees and 14 residents, including a previously reported death.
The second cluster is among individuals and their immediate families.
There are currently 10 individual and family clusters that make up 49 of the total confirmed cases in the county.
Non-immediate clusters make up 23 of the confirmed cases, and individual cases make up 50.
“The county public health department continues its … investigative work into COVID-19,” Treviño said. “And, a partnership with the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston has been established to assist us with contact tracing efforts, as well as UTRGV.”
Here is the breakdown of cases by municipality:
–Brownsville, 72;
–Harlingen, 81;
–San Benito, 11;
–Los Fresnos, 12;
–Santa Rosa, 6;
–Rancho Viejo, 4;
–Port Isabel, 2;
–Rio Hondo, 3;
–La Feria, 3; and
–Laguna Vista, 1.
Treviño said that in a call with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the county asked for additional test kits and reagents.
“I just asked him for his help,” he said. “We know there’s a lot of legislation going on … and we didn’t want the local governments to be left out of the picture because people rely on us to provide them the basic services.”
