As of Thursday, 64,382 voters had cast their in-person and mail-in ballots in early voting at the Cameron County polling sites, officials reported.

Of those voters, 56,380 were in-person ballots.

Cameron County continues to supersede its previous record after week two of early voting in the Nov. 3 presidential election.

“We are still seeing higher daily numbers than in previous elections,” Remi Garza, the Cameron County Elections administrator, said in an email to The Rider Oct. 16. “It should be noted that in these first four days we have 33,974 who voted. That number is more than half of the total we saw in 2016 of 61,339.”

Last Sunday, Garza emailed a correction for the first two days of early voting, which began Oct. 13.

“Please note the turnout number for the first two days have been adjusted by 5 voters at the San Benito Community Center,” the email read. “The polling location checked in the voters as though they had been given a regular ballot, but actually voted provisional. These voters cancelled their ballot [by] mail request but did not have their ballots. They did not actually cast ballots.”

The total number of early voters per day between Oct. 16 and Thursday is as follows:

–Oct. 16: 6,973 in-person ballots

–Saturday: 4,376 in-person ballots

–Sunday: 2,241 in-person ballots

–Monday: 4,889 in-person ballots

–Tuesday: 4,210 in-person ballots

–Wednesday: 3,573 in-person ballots

–Thursday: 3,117 in-person ballots

As of Thursday, the county had received 8,002 mail-in ballots.

The Brownsville Public Library Main Branch on Central Boulevard continues to lead the polling locations in the county with 1,205 in-person voters Oct. 16, its busiest day of the week.
