Of those votes, 79,601 were cast in person.
Cameron County continues to surpass its previous record from the 2018 general election after week three of early voting in the Nov. 3 presidential election.
“As expected we just left the 2018 General Election in the dust,” Remi Garza, the Cameron County Elections administrator, said in an email to The Rider Oct. 27. “Total Absentee Ballots cast or received from in person and by mail have exceeded the entirety of the last General Election. If we maintain this pace, we will exceed the [entirety] of the 2016 Presidential Election by the last day of early voting. Incredible!”
The total number of early voters per day between Oct. 23 and Thursday is as follows:
–Oct. 23: 3,871 in-person ballots
–Saturday: 2,672 in-person ballots
–Sunday: 1,439 in-person ballots
–Monday: 3,593 in-person ballots
–Tuesday: 3,522 in-person ballots
–Wednesday: 3,568 in-person ballots
–Thursday: 4,556 in-person ballots.
As of Thursday, the county had received 9,277 mail-in ballots.
The Brownsville Public Library Main Branch on Central Boulevard continues to lead the polling locations in the county with 824 in-person voters Thursday, its busiest day of the week.
