The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.
Jan. 15
4:30 p.m.: A construction worker reported she was physically assaulted by another construction worker at the Science Building construction site on the Edinburg campus. She reported that he pulled her hair and hit her on the head with an open hand and also pinched her face, causing her pain. The suspect later walked into the UTRGV Police Department building and was placed under arrest on charges of assault.
Jan. 16
9:23 a.m.: A staff member reported a university-owned Microsoft Surface Pro 4 lost since May 2017. She said she searched for the item in her office, residence and vehicle, but was unable to locate it. The Surface Pro was password protected and did not contain any sensitive information.
11:09 a.m.: A student reported pain in his abdomen and vomited in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services was requested and he was transferred to the Rio Grande Valley 24-hour Emergency Care room.
3:46 p.m.: A staff member backed a university vehicle into a non-affiliated driver’s vehicle in Lot B7. No injuries resulted from the collision and there was minor damage to both vehicles.
4:02 p.m.: A staff member reported losing a proximity card and her UTRGV ID before the Thanksgiving holiday. The card was deactivated.
5:40 p.m.: Financial Services in Edinburg reported $1,000 missing/unaccounted for and is waiting for bank confirmation to verify the amount. Verification from the bank was to be received by Jan. 18. The case is under investigation.
9:25 p.m.: A student reported she slipped and fell in Lot B1 about 9 p.m. She went home after the incident but returned to report it. She suffered bruising on her left knee.
Jan. 17
Noon: A student reported her cellphone was stolen by her classmate while at the Jack in the Box on West University Drive. She was referred to the Edinburg Police Department to conduct the criminal investigation. The UTRGV Police Department is providing assistance.
1:53 p.m.: A contracted employee reported that U.S. currency was stolen from her purse at the Medical Education Building in Edinburg. The purse was unattended and located in a storage room where employees keep their personal belongings. The case is under investigation.
3:22 p.m.: A student reported being assaulted by her non-affiliated ex-boyfriend at the Liberal Arts Building North on the Edinburg campus. She suffered no injuries and her ex-boyfriend left the area before the officer’s arrival. The case is under investigation.
