The Edinburg City Council has approved amending an agreement with Dannenbaum Engineering Corp., to include an analysis of a potential gravity flow system for supplying raw water from an irrigation canal to the reservoir system of one of its water treatment plants.
In 2011, Edinburg awarded the contract to Dannenbaum, a company based in McAllen, to perform services for the construction of the water plant. The amendment is to provide design and detailing and construction management and inspection services required for the completion of the project, according to background documents. The raw water would come from the Hidalgo County Irrigation District No.1 to the reservoir system of the West Water Treatment Plant.
The amendment is not to exceed $18,752.06, bringing the contract total to $1,299,549.59.
During the Feb. 20 meeting, City Manager Richard Hinojosa, said the money “will be used to design a well structure for the canal.”
The council awarded a bid to 4X Construction Group, LLC in the amount of $2,640,337.53 to construct Cell 7A of the Edinburg Sanitary Landfill and Module 4 of the city’s Type IV Landfill and site development.
The council did not ask any questions to Mario Gomez, director of Solid Waste Management.
The council agenda states that “based on the current rate of waste acceptance, Cell 7A will have a projected airspace use of approximately 10 months after initial waste placements begin, and three years for module 4.”
The construction is scheduled to begin March 5 and be completed in 150 days, according to the council agenda packet.
In other business, the council:
–appointed Ludvina Leal as city secretary;
–reappointed Cris Torres and David Garza to the Community Development Council;
–appointed Gabriel Hernandez to the Parks and Recreation Board;
–and appointed Nancy Ramirez to the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
