April 3
9:32 a.m.: A student reported U.S. currency and a gift card were stolen from his wallet. The wallet had been briefly lost and turned in to the University Police Department’s lost and found minus the items mentioned. The case is under investigation.
10:53 a.m.: A student reported his vehicle was struck while unattended in Lot E32. After reviewing video footage, the officer was able to identify the suspect involved in the accident. The case is under investigation.
3:33 p.m.: A staff member on the Edinburg campus reported losing a set of university keys in the area of the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
April 5
12:15 p.m.: An officer made contact with a student who reported losing her state-issued Texas driver’s license at Jazzman’s Café on the Edinburg campus. She wanted to generate a report in case someone found her license or needed to replace it.
3:15 p.m.: A student reported he slipped and fell outside the Main Building on the Brownsville campus. He declined emergency medical services and sought out medical services on his own.
4:17 p.m.: A staff member on the Edinburg campus reported her university-assigned laptop computer was missing. She states she possibly misplaced it at home. The last time she used her laptop was in October 2017 due to technical issues. She said she needed to file a report for inventory purposes. It is unknown if the laptop contained security sensitive information.
5:31 p.m.: A staff member reported losing her university-issued ID card at a convenience store in Weslaco. Access Control was notified to deactivate the lost card.
5:48 p.m.: An employee contractor reported his vehicle sustained damage to the right front and rear passenger windows. A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle driving recklessly inside the construction compound parking lot on the Edinburg campus caused gravel rocks in the lot to propel, striking the vehicle’s windows. Two other vehicles were also damaged as the result of the driver’s reckless actions. A suspect, an employee contractor, has been identified and arrested on a charge of reckless damage or destruction, a class C misdemeanor.
7:56 p.m.: A public safety officer detected an odor of natural gas emitting from a meter near Rusteberg Hall on the Brownsville campus. Texas Southmost College security and UTRGV Environmental Health and Safety were notified about the odor. They reported no gas lines lead to Rusteberg Hall. A walk-through of the building was conducted and no odor of gas was present.
