Oct. 1
4:36 p.m.: A staff member reported that a university wheel lock was removed from a vehicle in Lot E12 on the Edinburg campus without the authorization of the Parking and Transportation Office. The vehicle was locked for multiple citations. Surveillance cameras showed the driver removing the lock with little effort.
4:57 p.m.: A woman attempted to purchase a Chick-fil-A meal with a counterfeit $20 bill at the Student Union in Edinburg. The cashier used a counterfeit marker on the bill and determined it was fake. The woman then purchased the meal with her debit card and left the area. The case is under investigation.
Oct. 2
1:10 a.m.: A staff member reported finding narcotics inside a computer lab at the library on the Edinburg campus. The white powdery substance was in a clear plastic bag and tested positive for cocaine. An officer photographed, tested, weighed and submitted the substance for destruction.
2:25 p.m.: An officer noticed a student lying on the ground in the library on the Edinburg campus. The student was experiencing shortness of breath and sweating profusely. He was transported by emergency medical services to Edinburg Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Oct. 3
3:15 p.m.: A Parking and Transportation staff member reported that a parking enforcement officer wheel-locked a vehicle for unpaid tickets in Lot E19 on the Edinburg campus. It was later discovered the vehicle displayed license plates for a different vehicle. The owner said he switched the license plates because his car was breaking down. The owner was issued a court appearance citation and the license plates and registration insignia were confiscated.
4:14 p.m.: A faculty member reported the theft of a computer on the Edinburg campus. He said the equipment was last seen over two weeks ago. It is unknown if the computer contained security sensitive information.
Oct. 4
6:24 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a non-affiliated man asleep in the second-floor balcony area in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. The man was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted off campus without incident.
7:32 p.m.: A student reported her laptop was stolen from the science complex on the Edinburg campus. It was later determined the laptop was in the lost and found, and she recovered it.
Oct. 7
7:23 a.m.: A non-affiliated man was found asleep in the courtyard of the Cueto/Lucena Buildings on the Brownsville campus. Officers issued a criminal trespass warning and the man left the area without incident.
9:51 p.m.: A staff member reported stepping into a deep hole and bending his ankle while at the scene of an off-campus traffic collision, where he was assisting the Edinburg Police Department. The staff member declined emergency medical services.
