Nov. 5
8:04 a.m.: An officer was waved down by a staff member at the Science Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to flyers posted in the building about a faculty member. The flyers did not contain anything criminal and an information report was taken for documentation purposes.
1:35 p.m.: An officer responded to the Child Development Center on the Edinburg campus in reference to a staff member who reported being involved in a disturbance with a UTRGV faculty member. The faculty member became upset when he was told he could not drop off his child after 11 a.m. The incident was not considered a crime and a report was taken for documentation purposes.
Nov. 6
7:15 a.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on West University Boulevard in Brownsville. The non-affiliated 71-year-old driver appeared to be suffering from dementia. Brownville emergency medical services responded and the driver voluntarily left for medical attention.
5:37 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the wooden bridge on the Brownsville campus in reference to a suspicious non-affiliated person who was approaching and harassing students. After further investigation, the subject was issued a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV property and was escorted off campus without incident.
Nov. 7
11:43 a.m.: A staff member reported damaging a university vehicle at a parking garage in San Antonio on Oct. 27. The incident was reported to the San Antonio Police Department.
11:43 a.m.: An officer responded to the UTRGV Police Department lobby in reference to an assault that had already occurred between two staff members at the Casa Bella Apartments in Brownsville. The fight started over differences of opinion dealing with political views.
Nov. 8
8:02 a.m.: A faculty member reported that one of her students had an odd conversation with an unknown man at the Lot E9 bus stop on the Edinburg campus. The contents of the conversation did not rise to the level of a criminal offense, but the case is under investigation.
4:04 p.m.: A student reported that his parked, unattended vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle in parking Lot E27 on Nov. 7 on the Edinburg campus. After the video footage was reviewed, the officer was unable to determine if the accident occurred on campus.
Nov. 10
12:13 a.m.: Resident assistants conducted a health and safety check in a dorm room at Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. During the check, a liquor bottle was located in plain sight. The sole student occupant, who is under 21, was not present at the time of the discovery. The incident will be referred to UTRGV Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
2:23 a.m.: Officers responded to a report of six students in possession of alcoholic beverages at the Casa Bella Apartments in Brownsville. All six students were underage and were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor. The incident was referred to UTRGV Students Rights and Responsibilities.
Nov. 13
11:10 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the new construction area in Lot B1 on the Brownsville campus in reference to an alleged trespasser. The officer spoke with the safety coordinator, who reported that when construction workers arrived, they observed a man wearing wet clothes and shoes leaving the area. The employees reported the man had slept inside the construction site.
Nov. 14
12:46 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the Performing Arts Complex C on the Edinburg campus in reference to an active fire alarm. Upon arrival, the building was already cleared of faculty, staff and students. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived on the scene and determined that the fire alarm was set off by a duct detector in a mechanical room. The building was deemed safe for re-entry.
Nov. 15
11:58 a.m.: A student fainted while inside the first-floor women’s restroom at the Performing Arts Complex B on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services transported the student to the Rio Grande 24 Hour Emergency Care for further evaluation.
1:11 p.m.: UTRGV Police received information in reference to a delayed sexual assault report that occurred off-campus involving two UTRGV students. The Edinburg Police Department will conduct the initial criminal investigation and UTRGV Police will provide investigative support.
