Throughout this academic year, The Rider will explore the student organizations at UTRGV. This is the 13th in our series. The Rider interviewed Treasurer Jose Cruz and president Jesse Bautista of the Low Brass Club, for information.
President: Jesse Bautista
Vice President: Nathan Limas
Treasurer: Jose Cruz
Advisor: Assistant Professor William Haugeberg
What is the purpose of the organization? “Our purpose is to help give low brass musicians at UTRGV and the Lower [Rio Grande] Valley better access to opportunities, along with master classes.”
What are the membership requirements? “You don’t have to be a music major, but you do have to know how to play an instrument because we play around at different places. This year, we got invited to go play at Corpus. We got invited to go play at a conference in Lubbock, at Texas Tech. And then, next summer, we got invited to the International Trombone Festival.”
Meetings: Rehearsals take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays, followed by meetings from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
