Jan. 11
2:12 a.m.: An officer stopped a driver over a traffic violation on West University Drive on the Edinburg campus. The operator of the vehicle showed signs of intoxication and was given a field sobriety test in which he performed poorly. The driver and a passenger, who also showed signs of public intoxication, were placed under arrest and taken to the Edinburg Municipal Jail. The driver was issued a written warning for the traffic violation, and the vehicle
was impounded.
1:35 p.m.: A faculty member reported falling at the Harlingen campus due to an uneven sidewalk. She suffered a bruise to her knuckles on her
right hand and body aches. She sought medical attention on her own.
5:01 p.m.: A student reported being harassed via text messages by her ex-boyfriend off campus. The student was advised of available campus services and referred to the UTRGV Police Department’s victim service specialist.
7:56 p.m.: An officer stopped a driver over a traffic violation on East Tyler Street on the Brownsville campus. The officer noticed a passenger with an open container of an alcoholic beverage. The passenger admitted that the beverage was his, and disposed the contents by pouring them out. He was issued a court appearance citation for possession of alcoholic beverage in motor vehicle, a class C misdemeanor. The driver received a written warning for the traffic violation.
Jan. 14
2:07 p.m.: A student reported that her vehicle sustained minor damage when another vehicle backed into hers in Lot E-27 on the Edinburg campus. The driver of the suspect vehicle left the scene.
Jan. 15
11:18 a.m.: An officer on the Edinburg campus contacted a student in regard to a filed harassment report against her ex-boyfriend with the San Juan
Police Department.
1:49 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police department lobby on
the Brownsville campus in regard to a lost Verizon hotspot device that occurred between Dec. 21, 2018, and Jan. 8.
3:17 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police department lobby on the Edinburg campus to speak with a student in regard to his bicycle being stolen off campus. The student was referred to the Edinburg
Police Department.
Jan. 16
1:40 p.m.: Officers responded to a verbal disturbance at the Library Auditorium on the Edinburg campus, where a faculty member reported that his ex-girlfriend was refusing to leave his office area and causing a disturbance. She was identified as a former student and issued a criminal trespass warning from the University Library and Library Auditorium.
8:40 p.m.: A non-affiliated man reported that while he was using the restroom at the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus, an unknown man used a cellphone to record and photograph him.
11:55 p.m.: A student reported that while playing basketball at University Recreation on the Edinburg campus, his unattended wallet was stolen. The wallet contained U.S. currency and personal items.
