The Xtreme Team High Flying Dunk Team will perform at halftime at the UTRGV men’s basketball game against New Mexico State University at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Fieldhouse.
The Xtreme Team is a touring trampoline team featuring high-flying stunts and extreme dunks. On Sept. 11, 2018, the team set the world record for the most under-the-leg slam dunks (27) using a trampoline.
Jonah Goldberg, UTRGV associate athletic director for communications, described the Xtreme Team as people who can put on a great performance.
“They are just people who can put on a great show for the fans,” Goldberg said.
He reached out to the team and they accepted the offer to perform at the game. He said the Athletics department is looking to improve the fan experience and pack the house with this show.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve the fan experience,” Goldberg said. “We’ll always be trying to do better. One of the things, for this year, was halftime. What can we do to make the halftime experience better?
“Sometimes we have performances and there are games and a lot of things and one thing that we hadn’t really done, at least in recent memory, was to have a big halftime show.”
It is the first time since Goldberg joined the university that an event like this is brought to the halftime performance, and will be the only time fans will get to experience a show like this.
He encourages fans to attend, because it will be a different experience for all ages.
“You don’t get to see this kind of thing in person,” Goldberg said. “It’s gonna be such a cool experience. Just something that the kids are gonna love, the adults are gonna love.”
He said it is a great opportunity to see the UTRGV Men’s Basketball Team play the defending WAC champs at the same time.
