Jan. 25
11:05 a.m.: A faculty member fell and hit his head after slipping on mud in Lot E-28 on the Edinburg campus. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.
1:11 p.m.: A staff member reported the scent of marijuana coming from two dorm rooms in Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. He conducted a health and safety inspection of the rooms but no narcotics were found.
7:58 p.m.: An officer conducted a stop for a traffic violation and, during the interview with the driver, detected the scent of marijuana in the vehicle. The driver admitted to having marijuana and surrendered the narcotics. He was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and transported to the Edinburg Municipal Jail. The driver was also issued a written warning for the traffic
violation and his vehicle was towed.
Jan. 29
10:24 a.m.: While conducting a stop for a traffic violation on the Edinburg campus in Lot E-39, an officer discovered that the driver had outstanding traffic warrants totaling $3,480. During the booking procedure, methamphetamine and alprazolam were allegedly found in the driver’s purse. She was arrested and jailed in the Edinburg Municipal Jail.
6:54 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle when his family failed to return his vehicle after several days. His vehicle was later found at an off-campus residence, and is pending release to the owner.
7:26 p.m.: An officer responded to a report of a water leak at the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. Water from a lab was leaking from the third floor to the first floor. Paper towels had been stuffed into the sink drain and the water was left running.
Jan. 30
10:31 a.m.: A faculty member reported that another faculty member touched her hand in a manner she found offensive and provocative. The alleged incident took place at the Research Education Building on the Edinburg campus in November 2017. The incident has been reported to UTRGV Human Resources.
2:42 p.m.: An Hidalgo County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area investigator asked for assistance from the UTRGV Police Department for use of a police narcotics K9 to sniff a suspicious package at a McAllen Post Office. The K9 detected the presence of a narcotic odor on the package, so it was seized by the investigator to secure a search warrant. This investigation is being conducted by the Hidalgo County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
