Hidalgo County had 44 additional people test positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, with last Friday having the most positive cases in a single day.
Last Friday, an Hidalgo County news release confirmed 35 positive cases. Seven additional cases were confirmed Saturday and two cases on Sunday, according to news releases issued by the county on Saturday and Sunday.
Out of a total of 1,427 tests administered, 190 individuals have tested positive, 1,110 negative and 127 are still pending.
Nineteen of the 35 positive cases on Friday can be traced back to earlier cases of COVID-19 in Hidalgo County, according to the Friday news release.
Hidalgo County health investigators said this is mounting evidence that community spread is active in the county.
“The sheer number of new positive cases, and the number of those people infected who have a direct relationship with someone who tested positive earlier, should tell people why they need to stay home and stay safe,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a news release Saturday.
Last Friday, 10 people, who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, were released from isolation. Individuals who are released from isolation must not show any symptoms for 10 days, including the last three days exhibiting no fever. With the additional 10, this brings the total to 19 individuals released.
As of Sunday, 33 of the positive cases in Hidalgo County are in area hospitals, with six being in intensive care units, according to the Sunday news release.
