April 23
12:16 p.m.: A student reported she was offered a job via her UTRGV email address from an employer who was using what appeared to be a UTRGV email address. She provided personal information online to the person posing as an employer and was sent a check for $1,950. The student was instructed to deposit the check into her bank account and send the money back to the employer via money applications. She followed the instructions and was later advised by the bank that the check was fraudulent. The student said she is out $1,950. She was advised to file a police report with the Edinburg Police Department since the incident occurred off campus.
April 24
8:07 a.m.: A staff member reported that his personal vehicle was scratched April 23 by barbed wire that got stuck on the tow hitch of another staff member’s personal vehicle while it was exiting Lot E-44 on the Edinburg campus. The barbed wire was left behind in the area after changes were made to the compound gate and the barbed wire at the top of the fence. The estimated damage is unknown. A work order was placed to have the barbed wire removed from the parking lot.
10:06 p.m.: An officer responded to the second floor of the Health Affairs East Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to Hidalgo County EMS responding to a medical call. Officers arrived and observed a staff member on the ground. She reported tripping over her foot, causing her to lose her balance and fall. The staff member complained of injuries to both knees, stomach and lower back. Hidalgo County EMS arrived and transported the staff member to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.
April 25
4:37 a.m.
An officer conducting a status check on the Social Work & Occupational Therapy Building on the Edinburg campus noticed a shattered window on the west side exterior of the building. The officer checked the area and noticed freshly cut grass. A report was generated for documentation purposes and a work order was placed to repair the window.
