The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between June 28 and Aug. 2.
June 28
2 p.m.: A faculty member from the Edinburg campus reported receiving embarrassing/annoying emails via his UTRGV email account. The case is under investigation.
10:27 p.m.: An officer responded to the Life & Health Science building on the Brownsville campus in reference to an odor of natural gas around the building. Staff were directed to evacuate while the Brownsville Fire Department cleared the building. It was determined by UTRGV Health and Safety staff the odor was a normal occurrence and the building was cleared for re-entry.
June 30
11:26 a.m.: An officer was advised by UTRGV Police Department dispatch that two individuals were seen on the border cameras crossing the U.S. Border fence by the Brownsville Interdisciplinary Academic Building. The U.S. Border Patrol were notified and apprehended the two individuals without incident. The two individuals were from Cuba.
12:51 p.m.: UTRGV Public Safety officers were traveling in McAllen to pick up a vehicle from the mechanic shop when their university vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle at the Jackson and Nolana intersection. The Pharr Police Department investigated the accident and no injuries were reported.
June 31
7:14 p.m.: A non-affiliated female called 911 from the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus to request an ambulance for assistance after experiencing pain on her left ankle caused by an old injury that took place off campus. She was walking across campus when she felt she could not walk any more. She was transported to a local urgent care center by EMS for further evaluation.
