The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Jan. 24 and Feb. 1.
Jan. 24
10:16 a.m.: A staff member working in the Financial Services building on the Edinburg campus reported a forged check using the university’s account had been presented to Chase Bank. The check was flagged as fraudulent and
there was no monetary loss to the university.
3:39 p.m.: A male student at the Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus reported a theft of money. The investigation concluded the student admitted to having provided false information to the officer. The case will be referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for administrative review.
Jan. 31
4:50 p.m.: A Financial Services staff member on the Edinburg campus reported that five forged checks using the university’s account had been presented to Chase Bank. The checks were flagged as fraudulent and
there was no monetary loss to
the university.
7:04 p.m.: A suspicious vehicle
was reported in Lot E-33 on the Edinburg campus. Officers discovered the vehicle occupants were
students. The case was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for administrative review.
Feb. 1
2 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle stopped on top of a curb by the gate entrance of Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus. The vehicle was occupied by a student and her non-affiliated brother. The investigation concluded the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was issued a criminal trespass warning and arrested on a charge of public intoxication. Once at the Brownsville jail, during the booking process, it was discovered that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and was issued a citation.
