The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between July 28 and Aug. 3.
July 28
11:58 a.m.: A student reported that while running on the sidewalk of the 700 block of Sugar Road in Edinburg, she had a negative interaction with an unknown male riding a bike. No criminal offense occurred.
July 29
9:05 a.m.: A UTRGV employee working on a lighting project reported electrical items stolen from inside the second floor of the Edinburg Library Auditorium.
10:58 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that a male juvenile participant of a summer camp held at the Edinburg Recreation Center sustained an accidental injury. The juvenile was medically treated by UT Health personnel from the UTRGV Student Health Clinic. The juvenile was then picked up by a parent.
1:59 p.m.: A male student reported that he and several other students were in an electronic group chat when one of the students used profanity and made concerning statements. No criminal activity occurred, and the report will be handled administratively on the Edinburg campus.
3:09 a.m.: A UTRGV Edinburg Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on the 400 block of south Sugar Road on a non-affiliated male who was driving a vehicle with a defective tail light. A field investigation and roadside Standard Field Sobriety Test led to the determination that the driver was intoxicated. The male was transported to the Edinburg Municipal Jail where he provided the requested breath sample. He was subsequently booked on the charge of drinking while intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor.
July 31
5 p.m.: UTRGV Police Officers were dispatched to the Casa Bella apartments in Brownsville regarding an ill person who requested EMS, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Aug. 1
3:05 p.m.: Officers responded to a minor collision involving two vehicles in parking lot E-9 on the Edinburg Campus. No injuries were reported.
6:02 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the first-floor Biomedical Labs on the Brownsville campus regarding a drain that had water coming up into the labs. UTRGV Facilities was contacted and responded.
Aug. 2
3:34 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the UTRGV Police Department lobby in Brownsville to meet with a student who wanted to report damage to her vehicle after leaving the Brownsville campus. After further investigation, it was learned that the student was involved in a minor collision off campus earlier that day.
11 p.m.: Officers observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle out of Pharr in the parking lot of a local restaurant. A check of the license plate confirmed the vehicle was stolen. Contact was made with a non-affiliated male who was in possession of the keys to the vehicle. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and the male individual was booked into the Edinburg Municipal Jail on a charge of theft, a state jail felony.
Aug. 3
1:09 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the Academic Support Facility Complex on the Edinburg campus regarding a small brush fire located on the southside area. UTRGV staff members were able to extinguish the fire without incident. The small fire was a result of a powerline spark causing a tree branch to ignite and fall to the ground igniting the grass. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived at the scene and deemed the area safe.
6:46 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to SET-B in Brownsville in regard to a water leak in a UTRGV-leased lab. Texas Southmost College Facilities later inspected the area and found a TSC custodian had poured a large amount of water in a sink which caused the water to leak into the two rooms below.
