The annual Best Week Ever at UTRGV now goes by the name Welcome Week to help ring in and welcome students to the Fall 2022 semester.
This year, Welcome Weekโs numerous events, including The Stomp, are scheduled to take place on the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
Starting with some events Aug. 22 for student move-in at the on-campus housing, Welcome Week will run through Sept. 8.
Other events include Picnic with the President, where students can meet UTRGV President Guy Bailey and enjoy free burgers, as well as movie and game nights throughout the week. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Music, Science and Learning Center Building in Brownsville, and at the same time Sept. 8 in the University Ballroom on the Edinburg campus.
โWeโre hoping to kick off this fall semester with a bang and we know that a lot of these students, itโs [their] first time on our campus,โ said Dalyn Ruiz, event manager for the office of Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs. โSome of them havenโt been here since the pandemic.
โSo, we just want to kind of give them a big warm welcome with our Vโs up and welcome them to the Vaquero family in person.โ
Info Depots will be set up throughout both campuses to answer any questions that students may have about the upcoming semester. Free goodies such as snacks and UTRGV complimentary assorted merch will be available at the depots.
Asked why students should attend Welcome Week, Student Activities Program Coordinator Naomi Valdez replied, โIf students feel lost or want to connect with people, the Info Depots are right there and itโs really helpful if youโre not sure where your class is. You can pick up a snack, get some info. So, I think thatโs very helpful.โ
The Stomp, which is the most-anticipated event of the week, will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Texas Southmost College Recreation Center in Brownsville and at the same time Sept. 1 in the UTRGV Recreation Center in Edinburg.
In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, food and drink samples will be served at the event.
โThe Stomp is going to be a lot of fun,โ Valdez said. โIf you want to make more friends, if you want to just be somewhere fun for an afternoon, The Stomp would be the place to be.โ
A complete schedule of Welcome Week events will be announced later this month.
