Aug. 17
11:52 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that she sent a co-worker to retrieve Samsung tablets from an office, but the devices were not found. She said several employees have access to the office, and she has not checked to see if they were taken or moved. The case is pending investigation.
3:11 p.m.: A UTRGV officer responded to the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus in reference to an ill woman. The woman said she had a headache and was feeling dizzy after working outside in the heat for some time. Emergency medical services arrived at the location and transported the woman to the hospital for treatment.
Aug. 18
9:55 a.m.: A UTRGV officer conducted a traffic stop for expired motor vehicle registration. A driver’s license check revealed an active misdemeanor traffic warrant from the City of Edinburg Municipal Court. The driver was arrested and transported to the Edinburg Police Department for booking.
5:09 p.m.: An employee reported a suspicious man sitting outside the Math and Science Academy entrance on the Edinburg campus. The man, who is a UTRGV student, had been previously advised to stay away from the area. An officer arrived and asked the student to leave the area. Elements for a criminal offense were not met. The case is pending administrative disciplinary review by Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Aug. 19
9:23 a.m.: An elderly male patient reported ongoing physical and verbal abuse by a family member to a UT Health employee. The man was medically assessed at the clinic and Adult Protective Services was contacted. The man was accepted into a temporary shelter. The case is under investigation.
11:14 a.m.: A UTRGV employee made arrangements to sell a personal cell phone through Facebook Marketplace and met the buyer in the Harlingen campus parking lot. After the exchange, the staff member realized the cash they received for the cell phone was fake.
Aug. 22
1:08 p.m.: An employee reported the passenger side mirror of her car had been damaged while on the Harlingen campus. After reviewing the video from the closed-circuit TV, it was determined that the vehicle arrived on campus with the side mirror already damaged.
1:14 p.m.: A student reported that she had been having issues with a non-affiliated woman via social media while off campus. An information report was taken for documentation purposes.
Aug. 23
8:26 a.m.: An Edinburg employee reported the basket had been taken off her bicycle while it was secured at the bike rack outside the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 24
12:51 a.m.: UTRGV police officers conducted a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. A field investigation led the officer to believe that the non-affiliated man was intoxicated. The driver was transported to the Edinburg Municipal Jail where he provided a breath sample, which was found to be under the legal blood alcohol content limit of 0.08. The man was released without further incident. During a vehicle search, an unknown white powdery substance suspected to be narcotics was located inside the vehicle. The substance will be sent to the Department of Public Safety lab for further testing. The case is under investigation.
2:54 p.m.: A witness informed UTRGV police that a non-affiliated woman was riding an electric scooter when the scooter broke, causing the woman to fall and hit the pavement. The officer made contact with the injured woman, who reported minor injuries. The woman declined emergency medical services.
4:32 p.m.: UTRGV police officers responded to a small fire inside a dormitory in Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus. It was found that the fire originated from an electronic device that had been charging. A student said he quickly put out the fire when it started. The Edinburg Fire Department responded and cleared the building for reentry.
