The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between July 31 and Aug. 7.
July 31
10:24 a.m.: An employee reported a non-criminal workplace issue and requested electronic access control logs for the Research Office building on the Brownsville campus.
Aug. 1
12:06 a.m.: Two resident advisors at the Casa Bella apartments on the Brownsville campus reported being bitten by a stray dog. The City of Brownsville Animal Control later arrived on-scene and took custody of the dog.
12:46 a.m.: A female employee reported being startled by an unknown male outside Sabal Hall on the Brownsville campus. The officer searched the area but was unable to locate the male.
8:38 a.m.: An employee reported accidental damage caused to a university vehicle during a car wash near the Edinburg campus.
9:40 a.m.: A student reported a two-vehicle collision on the 900 block of W. Van Week St. near the Edinburg campus. No injuries occurred.
8:26 p.m.: An officer observed a controlled fire at a residence off campus on the 2300 block of E. Jackson St. The Brownsville Fire Department responded and notified the resident to extinguish the fire. No injuries or damage were reported.
10:13 p.m.: An officer on the Brownsville campus assisted the U.S. Border Patrol near the brush area adjacent to Lot B-1 in the search for two individuals suspected of crossing the border illegally. Border Patrol agents located and took custody of the two subjects.
Aug. 2
12:12 a.m.: An employee reported finding unknown stains on the floor of Performing Arts Complex A on the Edinburg campus. Officers determined that no criminal offense occurred.
8:26 a.m.: A female student employee reported uncomfortable interactions with a male staff member while on the Brownsville campus between December 2022 and August 2023. Officers determined that the behavior did not constitute a crime, and the report was forwarded to Title IX for review.
8:35 a.m.: An employee on the Edinburg campus reported that while cutting the grass in Lot E-23, a small rock struck the passenger side window of a university vehicle causing damage.
10:34 a.m.: An employee on the Edinburg campus reported he witnessed an unknown man yelling at a UTRGV shuttle driver in an aggressive manner on Aug. 1. Another report was made at 3:50 p.m. from a male student employee who stated that an unidentified man used profane language towards him and several other people at the bus stop outside the Student Services Building. The case is under investigation.
11:50 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported losing two university-issued keys in Lot E-7 on the Edinburg campus.
5:15 p.m.: A UTRGV officer assisted the City of Brownsville Police Department with a two-vehicle collision that occurred off campus on the 2300 block of W. University Blvd. Upon arrival, the officer checked the status of involved individuals who reported no injuries. A Brownsville police officer later arrived on scene and took over the crash investigation.
Aug. 3
9:26 a.m.: A female student in the Edinburg Village Apartments reported she heard her apartment door knob rattle at 3 a.m. After looking out the window, she observed a man walking away from her apartment. Officers later determined that the man responsible for the incident was the female’s friend who allegedly was playing a prank on her.
10:51 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported losing his personal bag in Lot B-4 on the Brownsville campus. The bag contained his university-issued cell phone and employee identification card.
11:08 a.m.: University police responded to Lot B-1 regarding three individuals who were attempting to climb over the border fence. The officer arrived and detained one adult male, one juvenile male and one adult female who all claimed to be from Ecuador. Border Patrol arrived on scene and took custody of the individuals.
11:17 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the University Recreational Center construction site on the Edinburg campus in reference to an active bushfire. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived at the location and extinguished the fire. The department determined that the bushfire was ignited by a cutting tool being used by contractors. No injuries were reported.
10:30 p.m.: An unknown female on the Edinburg campus used the Campus Shield app to report that a suspicious man had followed her from a non-specified parking lot to the Village Apartments. Officers conducted foot patrol around Village Apartments and Unity Hall but were unable to locate the man. Officers attempted to contact the woman via the Campus Shield App but were unsuccessful. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 4
12:33 a.m.: The UTRGV Police Department observed a group of subjects approaching the border fence near Lot B-1 through closed-circuit TV cameras on the Brownsville campus. Officers arrived on location and observed that Border Patrol had apprehended two adult males from Venezuela in Lot B-1. Officers did not locate the other individuals.
12:36 p.m.: UTRGV Police responded to the University Recreational Center on the Edinburg campus regarding a female student who felt faint. Emergency Medical Services were contacted and later arrived on scene. The student was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
5:05 p.m.: A female student employee reported observing an unknown man photographing an unknown woman with a cell phone as she walked near the Edinburg campus. Officers did not locate any of the involved parties.
6:18 p.m.: An officer on the Edinburg campus contacted a female staff member who reported that a suspicious man was observed looking under her vehicle. Through investigation, officers determined that no criminal offense occurred.
11:05 p.m.: A female student in the UTRGV Village Apartments in Edinburg reported a vehicle following another female student. Officers later determined that the student was being followed by a friend at her request.
Aug. 6
5:25 a.m.: An officer on the Brownsville campus contacted two students sitting inside a vehicle at the Casa Bella Apartments. No criminal offense occurred.
8:44 p.m.: An officer responded to the Village Apartments in Edinburg in reference to a female student reporting an unknown individual entering the apartment. Surveillance camera review showed no one entering the apartment complex. The report was generated for documentation purposes.
Aug. 7
3:56 p.m.: A student on the Harlingen campus reported discovering damage to her vehicle after it was left parked and unattended in parking lot H-1. The case is under investigation.
