The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 6 and 12.
Feb. 6
2:21 p.m.: An employee reported finding an inappropriate item in the elevator of the University Library on the Brownsville campus. A custodial employee properly disposed of the item before an officer arrived. The case is under review.
3:05 p.m.: A non-affiliated man observed suspicious activity between two men in the men’s bathroom in the Academic and Clinical Research Building in Harlingen. The case is under review.
Feb. 7
10:05 a.m.: An employee reported a suspicious man in the Maryalice Shary Shivers building on the Edinburg campus. Officers arrived and located the man in the Visitors Center. Upon further investigation, it was found the man had a lengthy criminal history and no legitimate business on campus. The man was issued a criminal trespass warning and escorted off campus.
2:33 p.m.: An employee reported finding the rear window of his vehicle shattered while it was parked in Lot E-42 on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation, University Police determined the damage might have been caused when the grass was trimmed.
Feb. 8
12:57 p.m.: Officers responded to a disturbance between a non-affiliated man and a female student near the Maryalice Shary Shivers Building on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, officers located the individuals and found they had been in a verbal argument over a personal matter. University Police determined no crime occurred, but issued the man a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV properties.
2:56 p.m.: An employee on the Brownsville campus reported being scammed by a phishing email regarding Apple gift cards. The case is under investigation.
3:41 p.m.: A Facilities employee reported seeing a partially undressed man in the men’s restroom in the Academic Clinical and Research building in Harlingen after she walked in to conduct maintenance. The case is under investigation.
Feb. 9
11:54 a.m.: An employee reported observing a woman possibly being harassed while she was leaving the Brownsville campus. Officers checked the reported area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. The Brownsville Police Department was also notified.
4:42 p.m.: A student reported finding a crack on the windshield of his vehicle after it was parked in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. University Police reviewed the closed-circuit TV cameras and were unable to determine what caused the damage.
Feb. 10
4:49 a.m.: An officer and the Brownsville Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm in the Life and Health Sciences building on the Brownsville campus. Upon arrival, it was determined a monitor flow switch had triggered the alarm. The Brownsville Fire Department cleared the building for reentry.
2:38 p.m.: An employee reported observing teenagers jump over the southwest fence of the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus to gain access to the pool area. Officers checked the area but did not locate the individuals.
Feb. 11
1:47 a.m.: An employee reported that a student possibly possessed an alcoholic beverage inside his dorm in Troxel Hall on the Edinburg campus. The officer conducted a consensual inquiry with the student who confirmed he did not have any alcoholic beverages.
Feb. 12
6:25 p.m.: Officers responded to a non-affiliated man causing a disturbance inside a UTRGV charter bus on the Brownsville Campus. Upon arrival, officers determined no crime occurred but escorted the man off the bus after the driver requested he leave. The man was issued a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV properties.
