Armani Raygoza is a communication studies redshirt freshman from El Paso. Raygoza is an infielder for the UTRGV Baseball Team. He recently earned the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week award for the week ending in March 31 by posting a 1.600 OPS, including two home runs and eight RBI in four games at designated hitter.
Q: Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
A: “My favorite food is definitely sushi or Mexican food.”
Q: Who or what got you started in baseball?
A: “When I was little, my mom just put me in at the YMCA, and I just started going from there. I didn’t have many family members who played [baseball].”
Q: Who’s been your biggest inspiration or role model?
A: “Definitely both of my parents. … They both started from nothing and both started their own different businesses. Watching them fail and grow has both helped me keep my head down and keep going.”
Q: What kind of music do you like to listen to?
A: “Definitely Latin music. My favorite artist is Bad Bunny. And if we go rap, I like Drake.”
Q: Any shows or movies you like to watch?
A: “Not a big show guy, but movie, definitely. We were talking about it earlier in the locker room, ‘Major Payne’ or I would have to say ‘The Benchwarmers.’”
Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of baseball?
A: “I love to eat food. We usually tend to grill out every weekend.”
Q: What is your biggest motivation?
A: “Definitely my parents. That’s pretty much it. My parents and family, for sure.”
Q: What do you like the most about UTRGV?
A: “As a team, I love the guys, everybody; we all have a close bond. The campus is tough. I think it’s pretty nice. The weather we get and the crowd we definitely get in our games, it’s a big factor.”
Q: What are your biggest goals?
A: “My biggest goal as a team is to get to the WAC tournament and, hopefully, we win it all. And yeah, to keep going.”
