If you are a girl, there’s a possibility that you have worn a nightgown, otherwise known as a bata, once in your life before. Although it may not be a big deal for others, it became a big deal for me that soon influenced what I like to wear for comfort.
Seeing my abuelita wearing one each time she went to bed, I became curious and asked my mother for one as a little girl. I was used to wearing pajama pants to bed and because I am very sensitive to textures, it was a major eye opener for me. Each night before bed, I become my abuelita.
I don’t care if some people may think it’s funny or unattractive. I mean, who is going to see me wearing one anyway, besides my family? However, this did lead into my daily life and what I had to wear everyday.
What is similar to pajama pants but has an even rougher texture? Jeans. Jeans have become my biggest enemy, yet it is the No. 1 piece of clothing you need to fit into society, most of the time.
I lived like this for a while, where I had to go to school in discomfort until I made yet another discovery, thanks to a high school teacher. Dresses.
I won’t ever forget the name of the teacher who introduced me to this life-changing idea for a lazy girl who wants only comfort and to still look their best: Mrs. Kizer. Mrs. Kizer was the only teacher I knew to wear dresses every single day, and I really do mean every single day.
One day, one of my classmates got the courage to ask her as to why she never wore any other type of clothing. She simply replied it was because jeans were annoying and dresses were simple to plan.
It blew my mind that I had never made that connection. I could still find a way to feel beautiful, but also be as comfortable as I am when I wear a bata. Because of this reason, I am a huge advocate that dresses are not only for formal events. So what if I want to wear a dress to go to Walmart? I am comfortable.
