The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Sept. 24 and 30.
Sept. 24
5:56 p.m.: University Police officers assisted the Edinburg Police Department with a possible assault in progress in Lot E-34. Upon arrival, officers spoke to two non-affiliated women. During the investigation, an Edinburg Police officer located narcotics in one of the women’s belongings and arrested her.
8:17 p.m.: University Police officers responded to a possible assault in Lot E-26 on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a non-affiliated woman who claimed she was assaulted by her landlord, also non-affiliated. Officers spoke to the man and found him to be intoxicated in a public place and a danger to himself. Subsequently, University Police officers placed him under arrest for public intoxication and transported him to the Edinburg Police Jail for booking procedures. The assault charge was left pending further investigation.
Sept. 25
12:27 p.m.: University Police officers responded to a student stuck inside an elevator in the Music, Science and Learning Center on the Brownsville campus. After the doors were opened, the student said he was fine and not injured. The elevator was placed out of service and a work order was submitted for repairs.
Sept.26
1:57 p.m.: University Police officers responded to a verbal disturbance between two non-affiliated adults over a parking space in Lot H-5 on the Harlingen campus. Officers determined no verbal threats or physical contact were made by either individual.
8:52 p.m.: A University Police officer responded to a report of a knife found inside the women’s restroom in Performing Arts Complex Building B on the Edinburg campus. The knife was submitted into property for safekeeping.
Sept. 27
5:34 p.m.: University Police officers responded to an active fire alarm at the Medical Education building on the Edinburg campus. The alarm was activated by a fog machine that was being used by employees. The building was cleared for reentry.
Sept. 28
1:13 p.m.: University Police officers responded to an odor of gas near the Dining & Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. Officers checked the area and determined a stove had been left on. They subsequently contacted the Edinburg Fire Department, which arrived on scene, aired out the building and deemed it safe for reentry. A student requested emergency medical services because the odor made her feel unwell. She was evaluated by EMS and refused transport.
Sept. 30
10:29 a.m.: A University Police officer approached several students who were using personal transportation devices on the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus. The officer informed the students of university policy, and the students said they would comply.
