Ivo Isqueiro, an economics sophomore from Olhão, Algarve, Portugal, is a member of the UTRGV Men’s Tennis team. Isqueiro was named Tennis Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on March 24.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I’ve traveled to over 40 countries.”
Q: What inspired you to get into tennis?
A: “I’d say my dad; he inspired me. He played when he was younger, and he introduced me to tennis, and I really loved it.”
Q: Who is your fan favorite tennis player?
A: “Marat Safin. He played in a very aggressive style when I used to love his backhand. I think he’s a great player.”
Q: What is your favorite music genre and who is your favorite artist?
A: “That’s a rough one. I’d say I pretty much listen to anything, but Justin Timberlake is probably the top one.”
Q: Do you have any meet day superstitions?
A: “If I lose a match in the same week, I need to shave. If I win a match and I have a match in the same week then, on match day I cannot shave it.”
Q: What is your favorite movie/show?
A: “‘Fast and Furious’ is up there.”
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: “Well, right now, we’re pretty time consumed. But I’d say bowling.”
Q: What serves as your biggest motivation?
A: “My parents. I play because of them.”
Q: What is something that you like about UTRGV?
A: “The team atmosphere and everyone in general–they’re pretty welcoming. And we created a family together, so I love the people here.”
Q: What do you hope to achieve by the end of the spring semester?
A: “Win conference, that’s the only answer.”
