Finance freshman Jackie Howard Gonzalez plays for the UTRGV Women’s Golf Team. Gonzalez attended the Colegio Americano de Durango in her hometown of Durango, Mexico.
Q: What are your career goals?
A: “First of all, I really want to pursue my sport in the future. I wanna see what I’m capable of doing. … I really like my teachers, so I really want to find a job in a way to do finance. … Overall, I think I’m planning on staying in the U.S. after my career just to look for a job and settle down for a bit.”
Q: What movies or shows do you like?
A: “I love ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine.’ ‘Supernatural’ is a very good TV show as well. I really like comedy ones, too, like ‘Friends,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ Those are super good TV shows. I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I really enjoy comedy ones and romantic movies as well and true crime.”
Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: “I’m really into pop, West Coast rap as well, country music. I listen to a lot of music, actually, like, I don’t have a preference. Ice Cube, Eminem, Tupac. … For pop, I really enjoy listening to Drake. He’s one of my favorite artists. I also love reggaeton.”
Q: Who is one of your role models?
A: “I think my biggest role models have to be my parents, both my mom and my dad. They’ve both been through a lot and I really respect what they do and how much they put into our family. So, I look up [to] them.”
Q: What has been your proudest moment?
A: “My proudest moment, I think, would be signing into UTRGV, because that has been my dream. Competing in a Division 1 school for my sport has been my dream since I was 8 years old.”
Q: Do you have any fun facts about yourself?
A: “That could be that I don’t like chocolate. … Candy, overall, I like. … Just chocolate, I just can’t. I love peanut butter.”
