Jaleel Scott is a business marketing senior and sprinter for the UTRGV Men’s Track & Field Team. Scott enjoys playing video games, watching TV and listening to music, including Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.
Q: What do you do for fun outside of track and field?
A: “Mainly I just play video games, watch TV, listen to music all day. That’s basically what I do on my free time.”
Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: “Mostly rap, sometimes R&B, a little bit of jazz and rock. I got a lot [of favorite artists], but I’m going to name three. Kendrick Lamar … Jay-Z and for R&B I would say, actually a lot of people. It’s hard … let me say New Edition.”
Q: What movies or shows do you like?
A: “Mostly crime type of movies. So like a bank robbery. So like ‘Den of Thieves,’ ‘The Town,’ and if I want to go for action, all the Transformers and [The] Avenger movies. Right now I’m watching a show called ‘9-1-1’ on Disney+ … but for my favorite all-time shows, you got ‘Family Guy,’ ‘Boondocks,’ and ‘Regular Show.’”
Q: What motivates you?
A: “My parents. They want me to keep pushing everyday so that’s what motivates me everyday.”
Q: What are some current goals you have?
A: “For track, I just want to have a good PR by end of the season and outside of track, just graduate college.”
Q: Who is one of your role models?
A: “I would say my older brothers. I got an older brother that’s playing basketball. … He’s in Costa Rica playing basketball. I got another brother, he got two degrees right now, so I look up to him.”
Q: Would you want to keep playing or do something with your degree?
A: “It’s going to be up in the air. … So last semester I was doing a little bit of photography with the athletics program and I’ve been continuing with that, so that’s something else I want to do.”
Q: What do you like about UTRGV and the Rio Grande Valley?
A: “I won’t say it’s kind of a small school, but it’s easy to navigate around campus. It’s just a nice area to be around, not a lot of people.”
Q: Do you have a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I’m the funniest person that everybody knows.”
