Jayda Holiman is a kinesiology freshman from McAllister, Oklahoma. Holiman is playing her first season as a guard on the UTRGV Women’s Basketball Team.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I’m left-handed and like to read.”
Q: Who or what got you started in basketball?
A: “I’m [from] a basketball family, so I would say, basically, my older brother. He first started me off because he inspired me. And then my dad’s side of the family, everyone plays basketball, so my dad [really] loves basketball. So, really my dad and my oldest brother.”
Q: Who’s been your biggest inspiration or role model?
A: “I would say [LA Sparks guard] Aari McDonald, because she’s also left-handed and just the way she plays. She has a great three-point shot and she plays hard. She’s quick, and just everything about her, how hard she works even throughout the tournament she played two years back. She’s in the WNBA now and that’s one of my goals, to go pro.”
Q: What kind of music do you like to listen to?
A: “I’m [an] R&B fan, I love Mariah the Scientist, SZA, Frank Ocean [and] Tyler the Creator.”
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: “I like to clean, I love to go running, and reading also [and] watching Netflix.”
Q: What is your biggest motivation?
A: “Really, just my future if that makes any sense, me being successful. I want to be successful in my future, so just having a successful life.”
Q: What do you like the most about UTRGV?
A: “I love the weather. I really just love the weather and the tacos. And the palm trees, of course.”
Q: What are your biggest goals?
A: “My biggest goal is to pursue my major in kinesiology and one day play pro overseas.”
