Psychology sophomore Jermarrion Stewart of Collinsville, Illinois, is a sprinter for the UTRGV Track & Field Team. Stewart won the Western Athletic Conference championship in the 4×100-meter relay and earned All-WAC First Team honors with a time of 40.73. He is 21 years old and his zodiac sign is Virgo.
Q: When and how did you start track and field?
A: “I started when I was 4. Like, just running around the neighborhood with my friends. So 4 until now.”
Q: What is your favorite part about track and field competition?
A: “I love competing. Competition is my favorite part.”
Q: What is one of your favorite hobbies besides track and field?
A: “Traveling. I love traveling with my best friends. All we do is get on a bus. We have fun. And I love waking up and seeing everyone dead asleep.”
Q: How do you start your day?
A: “Wake up and I stretch. The most important thing I do is wake up, stretch and then I have breakfast. Once I have breakfast, I do a little homework, go to practice and there’s that.”
Q: What is your favorite show?
A: “Right now, my favorite TV show is ‘Euphoria.’”
Q: What is your favorite genre of music?
A: “I love anything. You can literally play anything. My favorite type is R&B. ’90s R&B music as well.”
Q: What is the name of the last song you listened to?
A: “Hrs And Hrs by Muni Long.”
Q: What is the first thing you would buy if you had a million dollars?
A: “I would buy stock because you can invest in it and make more money.”
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I can fall asleep anywhere. It doesn’t matter where. A track meet, on a plane, on a bus, anywhere.”
The UTRGV Track & Field Team competed last weekend in the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston. Results were not available at press time.
“I plan on going a lot faster, not even a lot faster, just, like, a millisecond faster,” Stewart said before the invitational. “Like that would just be, like, amazing. So, my goal this week is to just drive, maintain and transition speed.”
