Sam Whitehead plays for the UTRGV Men’s Tennis Team. He is a freshman, majoring in business management and hails from Launceston, Tasmania, where he made the All Australian Tennis Team.
Q: What do you think is the most important part of being an athlete?
A: “[It’s] about representing the school. You know, in a way that reflects the hard work we put in out in the court.”
Q: Who is your inspiration?
A: “My inspiration growing up was Rafael Nadal and a lot of other Australian tennis players.”
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: “[I’m] most proud of representing this school, and it’s probably been my biggest accomplishment in tennis so far in my life.”
Q: How long have you been interested in athletics, in general?
A: “I’ve been a pretty sporty person my whole life. My parents were sporty people, so I was kinda born into that sporting environment.”
Q: What do you think of your hometown?
A: “It’s a great place. I love it. It’s quite small but everybody’s nice and it’s a great place.”
Q: What would you say is the biggest difference between the Rio Grande Valley and Launceston?
A: “Definitely the weather. It’s very hot here, and it can get very cold.”
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat?
A: “Coming over [to the United States of America], trying Chipotle. Really enjoy that.”
