Effects of Texas power outages

Due to February’s record-low temperatures, millions of people across Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley, were left without power for several days. From meals cooked on the grill to game nights lit by candles, people found ways to cope with the adverse weather. Many plants also froze during the storm. On Feb. 20, an individual was denied a vaccine at the Edinburg vaccination site for not having a Social Security number. However, the Texas Department of State Health Services does not require immigration status or proof of residency for vaccination. In response to this, the university has made an effort to reach out to those individuals who were denied a vaccine and has partnered with La Unión Del Pueblo Entero to create a statement.
