We are less than a month away from the 2019-20 NBA season and many players are set up to have great seasons. Here, I predict which NBA players will have the best overall performances.
No. 5 Kyrie Irving
It’s a new season and Kyrie is now with the Brooklyn Nets. This should be a great opportunity for Kyrie to shine as the Nets proved that they have a solid team without the need for a superstar. What’s different from last season is the Celtics had many players who all wanted more shots, whereas this team is OK with not getting a certain number of shots each as long as there are results. Kyrie will have a chance to be a ball-dominant player and show the league what he is capable of.
No. 4 Anthony Davis
There’s no doubt that AD is the best center in the league, but he’s never had a team with the potential to go all the way–until now with the Lakers. In his history, he has dealt with injuries that prevented him from performing at his best throughout the season. Ideally, the centers Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee will help lighten the load on him and give him time to rest. If he can keep from getting injured, this will be his best season in the NBA.
No. 3 Giannis Antetokounmpo
2019 MVP Giannis is ready for a new season of basketball after failing to make the Finals last year. I have no doubt that this will be the year he takes the Bucks to the Finals and will have a great regular season, just not as good as last year’s. I believe that no one can have a year like that back-to-back, but maybe he’ll prove me wrong.
No. 2 Kawhi Leonard
The Klaw is coming right off an NBA Championship and looking for another one. He will do great with the Clippers and will put up good numbers, but with Paul George and a roster full of good players, he won’t get as many shots as last year. It might be more of a San Antonio Kawhi–efficient, but not huge on numbers.
No. 1 LeBron James
You knew it was coming. LeBron will have the best regular season and as a result, be the 2020 MVP. The team is just great. This may be the first time he has been on a team with a good bench. That should lighten the load on him, but what’s more important is the big duo present. Imagine trying to stop a pick-and-roll with LeBron and Anthony Davis. There is no right decision; you can’t double either player without giving up an open shot or an assist for an easy bucket. I just don’t see any team slowing them down except maybe the Clippers, which they will only face a couple of times in the regular season.
