UTRGV’s Office of the Dean of Students today revealed the results of the Student Government Association General Election for the 2024-2025 academic year. Voter turnout was 5.4%.
Psychology junior Odalys A. Saenz beat her opponent Noah Trstenjak, a philosophy senior and senator-at-large for the Brownsville campus, with 59.50% of the votes and has been re-elected as SGA president.
Saenz’s executive ticket received 855 votes to Trstenjak’s 582 votes. Trstenjak’s executive ticket included biology senior Mikaela Johnson and mass communication sophomore Alexis Uscanga Cadena.
Saenz’s executive ticket includes biomedical science senior Juana Elena Jimenez L., who will serve as external vice president, and music junior Gregorio J. Zuniga, as internal vice president.
Also announced were the newly elected SGA senators who will represent the campus community for the upcoming term.
–Otweduampong-ba Ewuradwoa Nketiah, Laura Reyes and David Salinas were elected as senators for the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship
–Ximena Larios was elected as senator for the College of Education and P-16 Integration
–Norma Escalante, Ingridy Foltran, Jose L. Tabarez Jr. and Dante Solano were elected as senators for College of Engineering and Computer Science
–Sergio Gonzalez-Eymard was elected as senator for College of Health Professions
–Andrea Maldonado and Eliseo Zavala were elected as senator for College of Liberal Arts
–Juan Pablo Hernandez was elected as senator for College of Sciences
–Kayla White was elected as senator for the School of Nursing
–Samsunnahar Bipasha, Khondoker Hossain and Courtney MacNeil were elected as senators for the Graduate College
–Christian Alvarado, Juan Longoria and Hannah Martinez were elected senators-at-large for Brownsville
–Andrea Gaytan, Skyler Howell and Richard Reimer were elected senators-at-large for Edinburg.
Voting began Monday morning and ended Thursday night.
The term of office for the new SGA leaders will commence at noon May 6.
