Remi Garza, the Elections Administrator for the Cameron County Election Department, said voter turnout increased.
“I think a lot of people decided they wanted their voices heard during this time when you consider the issues that are going on on a national level and state level and the local level,” Garza said.
Garza said that compared to previous years and elections, there was more interest from new voters and the number of younger voters increased.
“We certainly hope this midterm is a sign of things to come,” Garza said. “If people are willing to take the opportunity to vote and go out on these types of races, when we think of upcoming constitutional races I hope they’ll tune in just as seriously.”
