Throughout this academic year, The Rider will explore the student organizations at UTRGV. This is the 17th in our series. The Rider interviewed Housing Assistant Director Jessica Vallejo.
President: Carlos Davila
Vice President: Brenda Alaniz
Secretary: Hector De La Garza
Budget Comptroller: Enrique Leal
Advisers: Housing Coordinators John Martinez and Dora Rivera and Assistant Director Jessica Vallejo.
As an organization, what do you plan to accomplish? “This semester, we want to accomplish a sense of community within the halls, especially with Unity, Heritage, Troxel and The Village Apartments. We really want the students to have a voice within the residence life halls, and be able to participate and build community and create new friendships.”
What are some activities your organization carries out? “This semester, we’re actually gonna be … a huge part of … Homecoming. Two of our officers are part of the committee. So, we will be participating … attending Homecoming on the 16th and then we will be attending the games and trying to get all of our students involved to attend all the events that are available to them.”
What are the membership requirements? “There are no membership fees. All of our residents are already part of the organization, so you’re automatically a member. However, we do have a difference when they are active members. To be an active member, you need to attend meetings and participate and be pretty active in all of our events.”
Meetings: 7 p.m. each Monday. Location varies.
