Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Joy Diaz visits Edinburg campus

Joy Diaz said she left her job to fulfill her mission of serving as the next governor of the state of Texas. Diaz plans to focus on the border, challenges to public education and state preparedness. The Austin Democrat said her experiences as a former teacher and growing up in Mexico influenced her to want to change the state of Texas for the better. Early voting for the March 1 primary election is Feb. 14.

Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Joy Diaz spoke about wanting to change the state of Texas to improve the quality of life of people through changes and not words Tuesday afternoon in the PlainsCapital Bank Theater on the Edinburg campus and via livestream in Salón Gardenia on the Brownsville campus. Diaz said her experience with COVID-19 helped open her eyes and want to improve the quality of life of the people.

The next candidate guest will be Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke. The event will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the PlainsCapital Bank Theater on the Edinburg campus and via livestream in Salón Gardenia on the Brownsville campus.
