Felix Sauceda was confirmed as police chief during the Brownsville City Commission meeting Tuesday.
The former commander was appointed police chief Monday.
Sauceda started working for the Brownsville Police Department in 1991. Orlando Rodriguez, the former police chief, retired in August 2018.
In an interview with The Rider after the meeting, Sauceda said he is humbled and proud to serve the community.
“I stand on a strong platform of service, service to our community,” he said. “I serve; I have a servant heart, one that I will make sure will resonate through our organization and as we transform it into what is expected and what is deserved of our community. We will invest in our personnel. We will change our culture as an organization.”
Sauceda plans to implement strategies and philosophies that are necessary to bring to a modern-day police organization.
City Manager Noel Bernal presented Sauceda as the police chief during the city manager’s updates.
“He did go through a rigorous process,” Bernal said during the meeting. “We had various panels … and also, assessments that were based on his executive level and his psychometric characteristics in terms of who he is as an individual. All that put together allowed me to make the best decision for the community and that was to select him because of his leadership, his character, his vision, his qualifications and I am pleased to introduce him to the community as chief of police.”
