Leading the way for the Vaqueras is freshman Samantha Garza, who said she is adapting well to the team.
“I’m connecting with the girls a lot, and I’m just excited to see what this season brings,” Garza said.
She made her college debut with a three-round score of 227 and tied for 42nd.
“It’s my first college tournament, so I’m just happy with the outcome,” Garza said.
The freshman said some personal goals include not only to finish within the top 25 in the majority of the tournaments, but most important, to demonstrate her golf game to the world.
Head Coach Bryan Novoa expects for everyone to perform at their best.
“It’s truly about getting better every day,” Novoa said. “I want the girls to understand self-belief and what that takes. I believe in eight women that represent our university, but it really doesn’t matter unless they believe in themselves.”
Junior Briana Garza believes the team had a good first tournament. However, she said there is still room for improvement.
“I’m just excited to see how we’re gonna keep on moving forward,” Briana Garza said.
She added that team bonding and working on course management should help the team get to the top of the scoreboard throughout the tournaments.
