Hidalgo County nearing 2016 early voting record

 Hidalgo County reported a total of 122,371 early voting ballots cast either by voting in person or by mail as of Thursday.

 A total of 109,544 people voted in person, and 12,827 voted via mail-in ballots in Hidalgo County.

As The Rider reported Monday, throughout Hidalgo County’s first week of early voting, a total 88,103 ballots were cast.

The second week of early voting, from Monday to Thursday, accounted for 34,268 total ballots cast. Out of that total, 32,071 were in-person ballots and 2,197 were mail-in ballots. 

The total numbers of early voters per day between Monday and Thursday is as follows: 

–Monday: 9,830 in person/836 mail-in ballots

–Tuesday: 8,309 in person/666 mail-in ballots

–Wednesday: 7,391 in person/321 mail-in ballots

–Thursday: 6,541 in person/370 mail-in ballots

     According to Hidalgo County’s elections page, the county has a total of 391,246 registered voters as of Oct 13. As of Thursday, about 31% of registered voters have already cast their ballots.

     During the 2016 presidential election, Hidalgo County reported a total of 139,830 early voting ballots. In 2020, with eight days of early voting left, Hidalgo County is 17,459 shy of surpassing the 2016 early voting record.
