What are the differences between your hometown and the United States? “Well, first of all, I think [it would be] … the food. You can find food everywhere. For example, for México’s Independence Day you can eat pozole, sopes, tostadas and stuff like that. And in the United States, UTRGV also does those things for [México’s Independence Day], but it’s not like México.”
If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? “Tacos, you can get tacos de bistec, tacos al pastor, tacos de barbacoa, carnitas and all of that.”
Who is your role model? “My mom. Since I was little, I have seen her overcome all types of obstacles in order for us to be happy.”
Why did you choose sociology as your major? “Because I have always loved to learn about different cultures, languages and society in general. I feel like it’s something that can give you the knowledge to know about different origins.”
What is on your bucket list? “I would like to travel to Spain. I would also like to learn how to play piano and guitar.”
What advice would you give other international students? “I think my advice would be to open up and don’t be afraid to talk to more people or don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”
