Welcome home, Vaquer@s!
Fall 2018, a returning semester for some and a new semester for others. Whatever the case may be, welcome to Vaquero nation!
It is the fourth year of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, which means that we are the youngest university in the UT System.
The university is growing and it’s growing fast! With the addition of the Music, Science and Learning Center (BMSLC) and the Interdisciplinary Academic Building (BINAB) on the Brownsville campus and the new Science Building and the Interdisciplinary Engineering and Academic Studies Building (IEASB) on the Edinburg campus, UTRGV is expanding rapidly.
As we witness the growth of UTRGV, we should take advantage of this opportunity to make history for future Vaquer@s to come.
This is the time to be involved, take risks and make the most of your school year.
On that note, let me introduce myself: I am the new editor-in-chief for The Rider newspaper.
This will be my second year working for The Rider and all I can say is that we have a talented, dedicated and determined staff.
Through my leadership positions, I have learned that “there’s no ‘I’ in team” and without our staff and you, the reader, we wouldn’t be able to publish our weekly newspaper.
The Rider is a student-run newspaper that publishes every Monday and is available on and off campus in Brownsville and Edinburg. We consider ourselves to be the student voice of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Our team will be providing you with campus news, noticias en español, entertainment features and sports.
You can also visit us on our online website at utrgvrider.com, where you will be able to find our previously published issues, The Rider’s staff and online-only stories. Some of our online stories will include video packages.
Additionally, you can have us on demand with our app, available for iOS and Android.
We want to hear your voice, so don’t be afraid to express your opinion. I encourage you to submit a letter to the editor or send us an email with your story ideas at therider@utrgv.edu.
UTRGV may be two main campuses that are 65 miles apart, but we are a united student body.
