As the spring semester begins, students are reminded of the importance of having a good school schedule. As the semester goes on, it is easy for students to lose their way and become overwhelmed balancing their courses, jobs and social lives.ย
It is important to remember that setting a schedule that you can stick to during the semester is a necessity for academic success. Whether you feel that you work better in the mornings, afternoons or nights, it is essential that you identify the time frame and prepare yourself for the semester ahead.ย
In a study published March 2016 in the MIT Press Journals, University of Maryland professor Nolan Pope found that productivity rates are higher in the morning.
โThe finding that productivity is higher in the morning than the afternoon allows for efficiency gains to be obtained,โ Pope said.ย
He advises students to dedicate time to their tougher courses earlier in the morning rather than later in the afternoon, as productivity and brain function are higher earlier in the day.ย
As the semester goes on, students should take the time to not only carve out time for their studies but find some time to decompress as well. By making a plan and sticking to it, a student will be more likely to feel that they have some time to breathe and relax amidst the stressors that come with collegiate academia.
