Oct. 28

2:17 p.m.: A truck almost struck a Parking and Transportation shuttle bus on the circular drive west of the Main Building on the Brownsville campus.

3:16 p.m.: A student reported her non-affiliated husband came by the university to look for her Oct. 21 on the Edinburg campus.

4:26 p.m.: An unknown man called from a Mexican phone number claiming he was going to send individuals with guns and ammunition to the UTRGV Health Primary Care Clinic off campus in Brownsville. UTRGV Police and Cameron County sheriff deputies responded and confirmed the clinic was safe. A Timely Warning Notification was issued.

Oct. 29

9:12 a.m.: A student reported his backpack, containing his gaming device, was stolen Oct. 28 from the Student Union on the Brownsville campus. The estimated loss was $450.

11:24 a.m.: A student reported her non-affiliated ex-boyfriend visited her unannounced at her apartment at Casa Bella Apartments Oct. 28 on the Brownsville campus. She felt uncomfortable with the unexpected visit.

12:41 p.m.: A student lost his wallet somewhere on the Edinburg campus.

1:48 p.m.: A staff member lost her vehicle key and university-issued key somewhere on the Edinburg campus.

2:45 p.m.: A student removed an immobilization device from his vehicle in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The device was initially placed and retrieved by Parking and Transportation Services. A second device was placed on the vehicle pending the active parking citations.

3:21 p.m.: A student’s parked, unattended vehicle sustained damage to a window caused by a grounds staff member in Lot E-26 on the Edinburg campus. Facilities’ management arranged to take care of the vehicle’s repair cost.

Oct. 30

9:43 a.m.: A student’s roommate poured laundry detergent in her orange juice at the Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus. She drank the orange juice and immediately noticed the bad taste.

11:06 a.m.: A faculty member’s university-issued laptop, keys and other computer accessories were stolen from his vehicle parked in his garage at his off-campus residence. The laptop was password protected and did not contain any sensitive information. The Mission Police Department arrived and generated a burglary of habitation report.

2:34 p.m.: A staff member at the Bursar’s Office reported her cash box was over $100 at the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus.

3:14 p.m.: Wireless headphones and a USB charging cable were stolen from the University Bookstore on the Edinburg campus. The estimated loss was under $100.

3:54 p.m.: A staff member’s assigned police unit was reported to have been struck in the rear bumper, causing minor damages Oct. 29 off campus. A McAllen Police officer generated a minor accident report.

6:21 p.m.: A student was struck on her left arm by a truck while using the crosswalk at Van Week and 600 North Nevares Road near the Edinburg campus. The involved vehicle left the scene, and emergency medical services transported the student to the Edinburg Regional Medical Center. 

Oct. 31

12:57 a.m.: Several subjects were seen via border cameras running toward University Boulevard on the Brownsville campus. U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended and took custody of three women and three men from Mexico without further incident.

3:08 a.m.: U.S. Border Patrol agents searched for and apprehended four individuals in the brush area by the Thermal Plant near the Brownsville campus. A man from Nicaragua, a teenager from Guatemala and a man and a teenager from El Salvador were taken into custody.

9:59 a.m.: A staff member lost a pair of headphones at the Music, Science & Learning Center on the Brownsville campus.

4:24 p.m.: A man and woman were both witnessed inside the same stall of the women’s restroom at the Biomedical Research Building on the Brownsville campus. The individuals were confirmed to be students.

9:27 p.m.: A student’s iPad was stolen at the Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus. The estimated loss was $400.

Nov. 1

8:38 a.m.: A construction crew triggered a smoke detector, activating the fire alarm in the Health Affairs Building West on the Edinburg Campus. The Edinburg Fire Department responded and later cleared the building for re-entry.

9:05 a.m.: A student received several calls from a non-affiliated suspect from jail off campus. She has an active order of emergency protection barring any communication from the suspect and wants to file criminal charges.

2:42 p.m.: A fire alarm was activated in the Engineering building on the Edinburg campus. The Edinburg Fire Department determined a smoke detector triggered the alarm and later cleared the building for re-entry.
