March 17
1:23 p.m.: A student’s 2015 Dodge Ram truck was stolen while it was parked in Lot B-6 at the Casa Bella apartment complex on the Brownsville campus. The theft occurred around 11:36 p.m. March 16. A person of interest was seen in the area. He is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years of age, medium complexion, short dark hair, 140-160 pounds, about 5 feet, 6 inches in height, and was wearing a light-colored shirt with dark horizontal stripes over blue jeans. A Timely Warning Notification was sent in regard to the incident. The case is under investigation.
3:39 p.m.: An officer issued a criminal trespass warning to a non-affiliated man who had been sleeping outside the Clinical Education Building on the Harlingen campus on various dates as reported by UTRGV staff. The man was escorted off property without incident.
March 18
9:54 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Research Education Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to a staff member experiencing an abnormal heart rate. Emergency medical services was requested, and the staff member was transported to Edinburg Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
6:39 p.m.: An officer was waved down at the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus by a student requesting assistance. The student had been working on a project prior to the officer’s arrival when he mistakenly left his identification card which allowed him access inside the classroom. Further investigation revealed he had gained access to the room using a former student’s university identification card. The former student gave him the identification card when he graduated a year ago. The identification card was confiscated, and entry was denied. The case has been referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities.
March 19
8:30 a.m.: A staff member reported losing a university-issued key somewhere around the Edinburg campus. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
10:23 a.m.: An officer was waved down by a man who reported seeing a small child running into the street near the intersection of North First Street and Schunior Road in Edinburg. The Edinburg Police Department also arrived at the scene after being notified via 911. The child was located and returned to his residence. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
2:02 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Biomedical Research Building on the Brownsville campus in reference to a staff member collapsing on the floor. Upon arrival, the officer observed the staff member conscious but still on the floor. The staff member refused emergency medical services and was then taken to a hospital by a friend for further evaluation.
2:31 p.m.: A non-affiliated man reported that he had used his credit card to purchase a coffee at the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus on Feb. 19. Since that day, he reported a total of eight fraudulent, unauthorized charges for the same amount from the vendor where he purchased the coffee. The case is under investigation.
2:46 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus due to a verbal disturbance between a female and male student. Officers confirmed that no physical altercation had occurred between the students. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
March 20
11:54 a.m.: A staff member reported food had been stolen from the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
10:06 p.m.: A student reported having been sexually assaulted at his apartment in the Casa Bella apartment complex on the Brownsville campus by a non-affiliated man he had met through a dating app on the evening of March 16. A Timely Warning Notification was sent in regard to the incident. The case is under investigation.
March 21
8:23 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus in reference to a man seen on the border cameras walking south of the border fence near the brush area. A U.S. Border Patrol agent observed the same man walking by the Main Building entrance and detained him without incident. The man’s country of origin is currently unknown.
12:22 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Cavalry Hall on the Brownsville campus in reference to a fire alarm caused by a bad sensor or dust that had accumulated in the air-conditioning duct supply unit. UTRGV Facilities later cleared the building for re-entry.
March 23
3:44 p.m.: A staff member reported losing a scanner belonging to Mail Services on the Brownsville campus while delivering mail on March 20.
4:17 p.m.: A staff member reported that while reversing in a university vehicle, he struck an electrical meter box located at the UT Health RGV Surgery & Women’s Specialty Clinic on the Harlingen campus. No injuries or damage to the vehicle were reported. The meter box sustained visible damage, and a work order was placed to repair the meter.
6:26 p.m.: A staff member reported that a student entered the fenced complex by damaging a fence at the Casa Bella apartment complex on the Brownsville campus. The student has been identified and admitted to the damage. The incident will be referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
