8:45 a.m.: A staff member reported finding the toolbox to his assigned university vehicle opened, which he had left locked on the Brownsville campus. No items were reported missing. After reviewing camera footage, the officer learned that another staff member had opened the toolbox. The employees’ supervisor was made aware of the findings, and he advised he would handle this matter administratively.
9:37 a.m.: A non-affiliated man reported slipping and falling when he stepped on his keys on the Harlingen campus. The man said he hurt his right knee. The man declined medical attention at the scene.
11:48 a.m.: A student from the Edinburg campus reported receiving an email response in reference to a complaint being filed via Vaqueros Report It in her name. She claims she never filed the complaint and wanted the incident documented.
March 25
8:52 a.m.: A staff member reported losing his UTRGV ID card on March 23 in the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus. He wanted to document the lost ID.
2:41 p.m.: A student reported falling off his bicycle in the area of Liberal Arts North on the Edinburg campus. The student suffered minor scratches on his arms and legs. He declined medical transport.
3:02 p.m.: A student reported being a victim of an email scam off campus (Mission). He stated he received an email from someone claiming to be associated with UTRGV offering him an internship. The student filed a police report with the Mission Police Department because he provided the scammer with money. The police department is handling the investigation.
March 26
5:26 p.m.: A student reported that her former roommate from the Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus damaged a lid to a cooking bowl on October 13, 2019. The former roommate said she was going to pay for the damage but has not done so.
8:46 p.m.: An officer responded to the Main Building on the Brownsville campus in reference to a burglar alarm at the Bursar’s Office. Upon checking the area, it was determined that two Facilities employees triggered the alarm when they accidentally opened a door.
March 27
1:16 p.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported tripping on temporary electrical wiring in Lot B-4 on the Brownsville campus. The woman declined medical attention.
4:14 p.m.: Staff members reported receiving several phone calls from a non-affiliated man on the Brownsville campus, who was verbally abusive when informed that UTRGV Health Services was not testing for COVID-19. The staff members wanted to document the incident.
March 28
9:48 p.m.: An officer responded to the area of the Texas Southmost College Jacob Brown Auditorium near the Brownsville campus in reference to an intoxicated, non-affiliated man. The Brownsville Police Department arrived at the scene and later arrested the man for public intoxication.
March 29
6:43 a.m.: An officer responded to the area in reference to an active fire alarm on the Edinburg campus. The alarm was triggered by a water flow sensor. The area was checked, and everything was OK. The panel was reset, and no further issues were reported.
8:58 p.m.: An officer assisted the Edinburg Police Department at the intersection of Sugar Road and University Drive regarding an abandoned vehicle obstructing traffic near the Edinburg campus. The officer assisted with traffic control while the vehicle was towed from the location.
March 30
9:56 a.m.: A staff member reported that several N95 masks were stolen from a box located in the Biomedical Research and Health Professions building on the Brownsville campus. The theft occurred between March 27 and March 28. The case is under investigation.
10:37 a.m.: Officers were in the area of Lot B-4 on the Brownsville campus securing the lot as part of the UT Health COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Site. The officer observed a faculty member attempt to enter the barricade area. He was asked to go around by the officer and the faculty member became upset. He began to yell several vulgar obscenities toward the officers and displayed an obscene hand gesture. The incident will be handled administratively.
