Police Reports

April 15

8:42 p.m.: An officer met with U.S. Border Patrol agents who advised they had apprehended a male subject from Mexico at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 77/83 and University Boulevard. The agent said the subject was also carrying a bundle, but was not in possession when he was apprehended by Border Patrol. A Border Patrol K-9 officer later located the 50-pound marijuana bundle in the wooded area south of Vaquero Plaza, near the Brownsville campus. The encounter was handled without incident and the matter is being investigated by the Border Patrol.

2:30 p.m.: A student reported his bicycle was stolen from a bike rack outside Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus.

4:30 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of a non-affiliated female who was walking around the Edinburg campus wanting to get tested for COVID-19. The female displayed aggression toward clinical staff and was denied testing due to not having identification nor an appointment. She returned to the site multiple times and was subsequently issued a criminal trespass warning.

April 18

6:10 p.m.: A student from the Brownsville campus reported receiving suspicious emails that appeared to originate from a UTRGV account. The emails were used to solicit the student to apply for a part-time, online-based position. No personal identifiers were released to the non-affiliated female.

April 19

8:49 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Academic Services Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to an unlock door request. Upon arrival, the officer encountered a UTRGV faculty member who wanted his wife’s office unlocked. Upon further investigation, it was found that the faculty member had gotten into a verbal argument off campus with his wife, who is also a faculty member. He stated he just wanted to check whether she was fine. The officer then spoke to the female faculty member in her office. She also confirmed she had a verbal argument with her husband earlier in the day at their home in McAllen. She said she needed some time away from him to clear her thoughts. The husband agreed to give his wife some time and left campus to avoid any further problems.

1:19 p.m.: An officer discovered the pedestrian entrance gate of the Cueto-Lucena House near the Brownsville campus was off its hinges and laying inward, and the bolts were found near the fence. The gate was placed back into the hinges and UTRGV Facilities was notified. It is unclear how or why the gate was off its hinges.

April 20

11:43 a.m.: An officer observed two non-affiliated individuals involved in a verbal disturbance in an apartment complex parking lot near the Edinburg campus. Upon contact with both individuals, it was determined that no offense had occurred. They were arguing over a cellphone. The officer determined everything was OK.
