The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Aug. 3 and 9.
Aug. 3
9:50 a.m.: An officer observed a suspicious package in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The item was a Styrofoam cooler with an enclosed lid. The item was investigated and declared safe after reviewing video cameras in the area.
12:46 p.m.: A staff member reported losing two university-issued keys. The keys were lost at a residence in McAllen.
3:50 p.m.: An officer was advised by the UTRGV Police Department that individuals were seen on the border cameras crossing the U.S Border fence behind Texas Southmost College Facilities. U.S. Border Patrol were notified and were able to apprehend three individuals in the Texas Southmost College Recreation Center parking lot. The individuals were from Mexico.
Aug. 5
2:08 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Academic Service Building on the Edinburg campus, in reference to an injury report. A male staff member reported falling while walking and injuring his ankle. The staff member requested emergency medical services and was subsequently transported to a Rio Grande Valley emergency room for further evaluation.
Aug. 6
3:17 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Medical Education Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to a fire alarm. Upon arrival, the officer found no indication of fire or smoke. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived on the scene, checked the building and deemed it safe for re-entry.
Aug. 8
4:38 p.m.: An officer and the Edinburg Fire Department were dispatched to The Village Apartments in reference to a fire alarm. Investigation revealed the pull station at the location had been accidentally activated by a student.
5:59 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to The Village Apartments in reference to a resident assistant reporting seeing a person’s shadow in an apartment that they knew was supposed to be unoccupied. The officer entered the apartment and did not locate anyone inside, nor were there any signs of forced entry. Contact was made with the resident of the apartment who later arrived on campus. The resident conducted a walkthrough of her apartment and confirmed nothing was missing.
Aug. 9
8:53 p.m.: UTRGV dispatch received an anonymous report via the UTRGV Campus Shield regarding an individual posting pictures of himself on Facebook inside a water fountain and holding an alcoholic beverage in his hand. There was no damage caused to the water fountain and the male individual was identified as a student. The case was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.–Compiled by Fernanda Figueroa
