The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 26 and 29.
Oct. 26
9:25 a.m.: An officer and the Edinburg Fire Department were dispatched to the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to an active fire alarm. An investigation concluded that the fire alarm was activated due to burnt toast in a toaster. The fire department deemed the building safe for re-entry.
8:35 p.m.: An officer’s marked unit rear window shattered while stationary at a traffic light off campus at McColl Road and Highway 107. At this time, it is unknown what caused the window to shatter.
Oct. 27
1:22 a.m.: UTRGV Police Communications observed five individuals on surveillance cameras climb over the U.S. border fence located behind Academic Support Facilities on the Brownsville campus. U.S. Border Patrol agents were dispatched to the location in an attempt to locate the subjects. The U.S. Border Patrol subsequently detained the five subjects without incident. At this time, the nationality of the subjects is unknown.
6:28 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the intersection of River Levee Road and University Boulevard in reference to four individuals who had crossed the U.S. border fence. Three out of four individuals were apprehended at the university land bridge by U.S. Border Patrol agents without incident. The fourth individual was not located. Two individuals were identified being from Honduras and one from Mexico.
Oct. 28
2:27 p.m.: An officer responded to the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to an active fire alarm. The officer determined the fire alarm was accidentally triggered by cooling plant personnel. Environment, Health and Safety employees arrived on scene and cleared the building for re-entry.
Oct. 29
11:46 p.m.: An officer observed an unattended vehicle with the engine running, driver’s-side door open and the light on by the southeast corner entrance to Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. A subsequent investigation revealed that a non-affiliated man had left his vehicle unattended momentarily while he was checking on his lost property at the Soccer and Track & Field Complex. No further action was taken.
